About the Show
This is BizCraft, the podcast about the business side of web design, recorded live almost every two weeks. Your hosts are Carl Smith (@carlsmith) of nGen Works and Gene Crawford (@genecrawford) of UnmatchedStyle.
Episode Overview
In this episode of BizCraft we discuss next steps for Carl & nGen Works, how we all work too hard and time as a commodity.
We talked about:
Carl’s Irrelevance Strategy post:

Micheal Lopp “volatiles and stables”
Questions I’m getting, “Why would you do that?”
“Somebody has to be in charge, you can’t just leave.”
“What about when someone needs to get fired, or somebody wants a raise? Who handles that stuff?”
But the big one is “What are you going to do now?”
The Busy Trap link that Daniel Burka recently posted to Facebook.
The goal of the future is full unemployment, so we can play. That’s why we have to destroy the present politico-economic system.” This may sound like the pronouncement of some bong-smoking anarchist, but it was actually Arthur C. Clarke
Then we got into this “Your most valuable asset” post – listen as Carl get’s angry then winds up agreeing with the writer 🙂

If you like the show, heck even if you hate the show, how about tell us about it in iTunes? It helps exposure for the show a lot! We’ll love you for it!
I am no where near as busy as Carl, but to be honest I see it as a relative thing in life. I spend 2 hours every day on public transport, commuting to and from work. Spending my time reading articles, reading Twitter till I reach my stop, then work my ass off and spend my hour lunch break reading more articles and looking at tutorials.
I get home after the hour commute home and have dinner and then do freelance work.
I never used to be like this, I wasn’t as driven 2 years ago, as I am now.
But here is the issue, I have been with my girlfriend for 3 years, and recently she has told me she is unhappy. Happy with me as a person and the life we have, but unhappy with how I haven’t been as attentive to her, not taking her out on dates or just looking into her eyes and pulling her closer. Instead spending more time on my phone and doing work than actually appreciating her for sticking around for a toad like me.
I’ve been thinking about what I can do, and hearing that a person in Carls position has his own issues and had to resort to this measure to resolve it, makes me think, the thought processes in these articles could help in my situation.
Screw this, I’m writing a blog too!
Listen to you guys as soon as I can after you release an episode, and you’re amazing. Thanks for the helpful tidbits you share and helping me fill a list of things I want to do and want to steer clear of.
Cheers,
An avid listener from New Zealand
Hi Niven!
I bet you are every bit as busy as I am. Love your enthusiasm for learning. It inspires me.
Regarding your girlfriend, that’s a tough one. Personally, I’d take some time away from the distractions of every day life and spend time meditating on your future. How does it feel with her being a part of your life? How does it feel if she isn’t there? Think back to when you first met. Why are you driven now? What made the change in your motivation?
If you decide she is part of your life then ask her how she feels about your dreams and goals and make her a part of them.
If she isn’t part of your future as you envision it, then realize sometimes people grow apart. It sucks but it happens. She’s still awesome.
Stoked to hear you’re launching a blog! Send us a link once it’s up and we’ll share it with the BizCraft audience.
All the best,
Carl
