Episode Zero – The Father’s Dilemma

As you May know – today is May the Fourth. You May see today hijacked by Star Wars fans from all over the world… (um… like me too) – and this day’s motto is now “May the Fourth be With You.” (If you don’t get the joke (like my wife), please just head back to our inspirational web design gallery, and enjoy another beautiful day in May!)

The rest of you – I have an important dilemma that I’ve been wrestling with for about a year now:

A Father’s Dilemma

A long time ago (37 years is fairly long ago), in a (um, place) far, far away (well 2 hours or so), my dad was a projectionist in 1977 when Episode 4 came out – and Star Wars was my baby sitter in a way (I was 4). All of you that claim you’ve seen this movie 50 / 100+ times… I pretty much just thought that was just the norm. Here’s my original poster that I beat up as a kid moving a lot – my wife had it restored and framed for my 30th birthday:

1977 Star Wars Poster - AG

Fast forward 37 years – I have three kids – boy who’s 9 – and two girls that are 7 and 4. They (wait, and my wife) have never seen any of the Star Wars movies. My son knows all about them and plays The Old Republic game online, but I’ve put this off too long – I don’t know what to do.

So which Star Wars Movie Do I Show My Kids First?

Episode 4 or Episode 1?

Chronologically by release date? Chronologically by episode number?

I don’t know – there are merits and disadvantages to both. I’ve gone through them myself, I’ve done the research online (and there is a ton – Google “Which Star Wars movie to watch first” – I’d rather listen to what you have to say. I’ll take this poll for a week and go with the masses.

This is first-world problems folks – but very complicated…

So…

Help me, Peoples of the Interwebs. You’re my only hope.

Now go on with the rest of your day – “And May the Fourth be With You!
