‘El Dorado’ is one of three pages for the Lost Worlds Fairs site by The Friends of Mighty. Because IE9 (Oh, the horror! (Just kidding (sort of…)) now supports the .woff font format they decided to explore the possibilities of type on the web. As such, this site is not really presenting information other than to demonstrate new possibilities available to designers.

So, of course its beautiful. Seriously, beautiful. All the text is live and the whole thing has a sense of playfulness and wonder about it. The golds and browns at once seem antiquated and cutting edge. This is a website worth exploring at length, visually and through code browsing. El Dorado is designed by Naz Hamid, principal at Weight Shift.

I think it’s interesting that they’re using color: hsla here. That’s new to me and I’d love to here anyone else’s ideas about why they would use that – and how haha.

@Julia: We opted for HSLA in this case because of its tweakable benefits… I feel a blog post coming on 🙂

HSLA does seem so much easier to adjust on the fly. It’s a lot more intuitive than RGBA. I always have to go back to photoshop to make color adjustments with RGBA; not so with HSLA.

Yeah, I don’t get it either, if the same browsers that support RGBA support HSLa, then why isn’t it more used in the wild?
