Google Frightgeist

https://frightgeist.withgoogle.com/

I’m an analytics nerd – so this Frightgeist site from Google Trends really speaks to me on two levels (design being the other). It’s a fairly simple site – but the US map with the blue/green shimmering specter-like bubbles (which look like the “spirit bubbles” in pictures), make a cool experience for geeking out Halloween costume stats. Here’s a little more about it:

“Every day, over 3 billion searches take place on Google, and Google Trends gives us an unparalleled look at what the world is searching for. Google News Lab puts that data to use — from powering insightful journalism to helping you pick out your Halloween costume.

With Frightgeist, we went on a hunt to find the most popular costumes. Pulling from the top 500 costume searches in the United States, Frightgeist uses Google Trends to tell you what’s trending at a costume party near you and help you find a costume that’s sure to turn heads — if they have them.

Before you go chopping up a perfectly good white bedsheet, pick something a bit more unique this year. Click on ‘trending nationally’ to get the big picture or ‘trending locally’ for the scene near you. Happy Halloween.”
