Andy Shield

If you are going to make a portfolio site for yourself, please make it different from all the other designer portfolio sites out there – and Andy Shield did. Besides not being magenta, he’s made good work of still using trends, but in more subtle ways – that make the site different. Video background – check – Animations – check – Contact form – check – but all in ways that are  subtle, and with a little more purpose. It’s a simple site – which means that he probably spent a lot more time on it (thus “the complex art of simplicity”).

Well, after eight years running agencies (Etch, Red Bullet and Made By Block), I’ve gone back to the front line to do what I enjoy the most – make stuff 🙂

I hope my simple concept cuts the mustard.

Brutalism: The Beauty of Breaking the Rules

Brutalism in web design rejects perfection for authenticity. Stark grids, raw type, and honest structure create interfaces that feel human, intentional, and impossible to ignore. Break the rules, on purpose.
