There’s been this really neat thing that’s come together called BarcampTour. The awesome folks at GrasshopperGroup, Wufoo & Mailchimp have come together to help support and foster Barcamp’s all over the country.
I wanted to get the skinny behind this assemblage of awesomeness so I rang up my buddy Jonathan Kay at the GrasshopperGroup to see what it was all about.
Here’s how they describe it directly:
An entrepreneurial adventure of four brands to help BarCamps across the country. BarCamp Tour isn’t even kind of, sort of, similar to your traditional sponsor. We are active and enthusiastic participants in your conference. Our goal you ask? To provide organizers with the resources necessary to host ridiculously awesome events which empower attendees to share their passions.
For those that don’t know what a Barcamp is (From Wikipedia):
BarCamp is an international network of user-generated conferences (or unconferences). They are open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided by participants. The first BarCamps focused on early-stage web applications, and were related to open source technologies, social protocols, and open data formats. The format has also been used for a variety of other topics, including public transit, health care, and political organizing.
If you’ve ever been to a Barcamp or helped organize one you know how helpful this will be and how it can really make one of these go just over the top. If you’re thinking of pulling a Barcamp together in your area i’d suggest heading over to their site and submitting an application.
I have to say that’s pretty awesome. I just watched the whole video and realized that they gave Charlotte a nice little plug 🙂 We love our BarCamps here in Charlotte.
GrasshopperGroup, Wufoo & Mailchimp pretty much rock my face right now (even more than before).
Yes, mine as well Bermon. They are like the big brother’s of our community. Gotta love ’em!
