Creative Jar

Dern. This site has a lot going on at once. I really like to see designs that push conventions into new territory and creativejar have done that in a few ways. The layout of the homepage content is modular, but only loosely structured. This is interesting, but if handled poorly can create a visual field where differentiating between content areas is difficult. In this case, I think it works well. The overlay animations do a good job of  informing me about what I might click through to. The layout is still largely crystallographic, but not obtuse.

I also like the small detailed animations that give the site energy and keep it active. e.g. the twitter bird and the navigation bar. I also think that the typography and photography are well incorporated. They act as a single visual instead of looking like two disparate layers as they do on many sites.
