Americanselect.org does a great job of making somewhat mundane tasks really interesting. For instance, when you “choose your colors” (rank political issues by importance to you), instead of maybe a checkbox form of dropdown where you can choose their rank, you are presented with a really nice interactive circular graphic and sliders that update the graphic to show your interests. Its engaging and makes me want to fill out the information. They need data so they’ve gamified the process that users must go through to enter it. I still don’t know exactly how the Americans Elect project really works (where do the candidates come from, how is one chosen, how is my data used, stuff like that), the site is a little unclear, but its visually stunning and does a great job of creating a unique interactive experience that is engaging and process oriented.
