Really great looking site, love the colour scheme and the “non-boxyness” of the home page.
Took ages to download for me – 5mb including a 750kb png.
That header is pretty heavy. Aside from that it has really well used “real world” elements in it. Feels like they are all scaled just right.
Yeah, there’s no real getting around the download time, despite our best efforts to optimize… But we went for maximum impact, not minimum load time, since it’s our own site and not client work. Of course, we’d never be able to get away with such large graphic assets otherwise…
Still, we’re proud that every element in the comp was scanned from actual paper elements we found — no stock imagery anywhere. Most of it came from a local Raleigh flea market.
