Super. Lamb. Banana. You didn’t read that wrong, this site is actually for a piece of artwork on public display in Liverpool. Here’s a quote from the site:

The Super Lamb Banana was the original work of Japanese-based artist Taro Chiezo. Commissioned for the Art Transpennine Exhibition of 1998, the sculpture was a controversial, but welcome addition to the public art arena in Liverpool. Standing an impressive seventeen feet tall and comprised of concrete and steel, the statue first attracted interest from its original position on the Strand. The unusual artwork was created to warn of the dangers of genetically modified food, whilst being appropriate to the city of Liverpool due to the port’s rich history in the trade of lambs and the import of bananas.

The first thing I noticed was just the right about of Flash animation in the header and an oddball look in the design, mostly due to the fact that a lamb with a banana for a butt was on the page. Designed by Kev Adamson, Super Lamb Banana makes use of some snazzy graphical work for the header (namely in the navigation) and even manages to sprucen up image borders.

The header stands out with the text behind the logo and the ragged-edge navigation, and that works for the site. Combined with the edgy image borders, the illustrations Kev did work to together to give the site a much more defined theme, which is one of artistic vision and slight humor. If you don’t think that works, just think about merging lamb and a banana in your mind.

A couple of points in the structure of the site that you should note are the footer and the left sidebar. Where you’d expect much more information and links in the sidebar, these is only secondary information (i.e., only a few links, search, and the latest news). The footer contains the site map, news archive, product listing, and your customary footer information.

The unique design of both the site and the lamb banana make this site one to really enjoy.
