Videoegg

Videoegg

Even though the guy in the screenshot looks fresh out of the 1980s, the rest of the site is kicking some modern tail. Serving up Flash videos to over 65 sites in their network, Videoegg better have a good handle on their own site, and I’m not disappointed. With some nifty sIFR, a vertically-stacked navigation, and some yummy tape and paper, Videoegg shines.

When I first saw Videoegg, I was hoping that they’d use some sIFR on their site to complement the Flash videos. The first heading I found was an image, but the next few, the ones that needed to be dynamic (see the Press page), made use of sIFR headings. Nicely done on their part.

Moving right along, I thought for sure that the vertically stacked and sideways navigation would cause a problem. I’m not usually OK with twisting my head, but surprisingly enough, Videoegg’s navigation read fairly easily for me. Perhaps it is the font (URW Typewriter T Medium) and the color scheme and make it much easier to discern. Either way, it looks great—not too simple, not too complex, and great readability.

I’ve always wanted to do a yellow on dark gray site, but never could pull it off. Videoegg nailed it for me and the colors just come together like magic. Moreover, they combined their color scheme with the youth-oriented-technology-look via paper and tape—check out the Media Platform page for a perfect example. The print medium tools add a bit of attitude and nostalgia, and really finish off the site for me.
