Alex MacDonell, a designer at Shopify, attended BDConf 2014 to learn from its many skilled and experienced speakers. Shopify offers online tools for building and managing E-commerce websites. Consequently, as a company that specializes in modern web design and strives to empower designers, the team at Shopify enjoys supporting the tech and design community through conferences. For MacDonell, his earliest takeaway from the conference was its emphasis on mobile planning, particularly because Shopify has done much mobile planning lately. For instance, they just completed a six-month website overhaul to achieve a fully responsive design. To help with that process, MacDonell used tools like Optimizely to perform in-house A/B testing on new features as they designed, tested, and iterated on site ideas and approaches.
Shopify takes a unique approach with E-commerce, resulting in a completely customizable E-commerce platform. Shopify’s robust platform can be used as the foundation for simple or complex E-commerce websites, whether you’re just selling a few T-shirts or constructing an E-commerce hub.
With a nod to many of the designers present at BDConf, MacDonell noted Shopify’s ease of setup for a client. This enables agencies and individuals alike to manage multiple clients’ websites from the same place. For those in need of a few more clients, Shopify’s partner ecosystem connects developers and designers with beginner-level Shopify users requiring assistance with a project that might be beyond their reach. This solution can result in convenient, extra revenue for individuals and agencies.
MacDonell also addressed the use of Shopify in operations of various sizes, from larger E-commerce businesses to individual proprietors. For large teams, Shopify supplies a continually growing list of new features on an expanding platform. For small teams or individual developers or designers, Shopify is infinitely scalable, meaning that a sole user can start with small sales on Facebook before proceeding to larger needs. As their sales grow, Shopify’s flexible plans grow with them, offering an effective E-commerce solution throughout a sole user’s business growth.
Furthermore, Shopify’s partnerships with companies like MailChimp provide completely integrated tools for email marketing, social media, and shipping. Additionally, the Shopify app store has drawn interest from developers of all sorts eager to build tools for integrated inclusion into Shopify’s platform.
