It’s been a while since I checked in with my friend Jonathan LeBlanc (@jcleblanc) from the Yahoo! Developer Network. He has been working on a book for O’Reilly called “Programming Social Applications“, which you can check out on O’Reilly Rough Cuts at the moment. He’s shooting for an August 2011 release date.
Programming Social Applications Book:
His book is about working with a lot of open source applications for integration into your application. From logging in to other APIs, he’s going to cover more than just Yahoo! based technologies. Jonathan really is plugged into this stuff and I can’t think of a better person to pull that together.

YDN Update
I asked Jonathan for a general update on stuff at YDN, what’s gone what are they focusing on these days, etc… He stated that they have a renewed interest in the culture around people working with and innovating with their products and services. They’re doing more events to work to promote this both internally to Yahoo! and externally to the YDN users/members. Things like these ‘Hack Days’ where devs get together to learn and work on community projects, as well as competitive coding sessions.

ConvergeSE 2011
Jonathan is a speaker at this year’s ConvergeSE conference. He’ll be doing a workshop on creating social apps. He’s looking for some input on some things that would be interesting to weave into the workshop. Like working with the specific technologies related to social applications, the future of them, how to utilize them in your app, how to leverage them to make your app more social. So if you have some ideas please share.
I ended our discussion with asking him about the status of delicious. Sadly he didn’t have much more info that the rest of us already have, but hey, it was worth a shot. But I did learn a little more about the way Yahoo! developers are internally setup for working on projects.
Always great to catch up with Jonathan!
I will b glad if it can work for me
