About the Show

This is BizCraft, the podcast about the business side of web design, recorded live almost every two weeks. Your hosts are Carl Smith (@carlsmith) of nGen Works and Gene Crawford (@genecrawford) of UnmatchedStyle.

Episode Overview

Carl and his nGen Works crew just launched a wiki that is all about their web development process, you can check it out here: http://process.ngenworks.com, there’s also an introductory blog post on their site about it too.

We both largely agree with this comment left during the last BizCraft:

It’s our responsibility to leave our industry better than we found it.
– Leslie Jensen-Inman

With all this process talk we couldn’t help but share some client nightmare stories. What did we learn from ’em and what do we do now to avoid them?

Questions from the kids:

This is more a biz in general question… but pertains to a situation I find myself in this week 😉

I am working to make the transition from full time freelance to full time in house. I have talked in depth with 2 companies over the last few weeks and have received an offer from one (company a), but before I accept I wanted to see the second companies hiring process through to the end (company b’s hiring process is more in-depth) so I asked company A for some time to respond (around 2 weeks).

Is this acceptable in the world of hiring? Or did I just blow it with company A?

Jordan Godwin
Carl: I’ve heard you say that you bill on an hourly basis; could you describe your process for that?

@midnighthaircut:
How do you say ‘no’ to your client or boss? Does it all start with “yes, and…”?

@karlikdesign:
Do you guys also handle content creation? And how do you charge for that?

Beers from the end of the show

Carl: Peak Organic Winter Session Ale
Gene: Newcastle Founders’ Ale

Give us a review?

If you like the show, heck even if you hate the show, how about tell us about it in iTunes? It helps exposure for the show a lot! We’ll love you for it!
